TF4 - Field Tests of the Transfer from Interconnected to Isolated Mode of Microgrids Operation & vice versa (EDP)
EDP will perform the following field tests:
1. Starting of the MicroTurbine;
2. Shutdown of the MicroTurbine;
3. Operation in Island Mode 1 (MicroTurbine only supplying the NGS installation);
4. Operation in Island Mode 2 (MicroTurbine supplying the NGS installation and the LV grid - Real LV public Microgrid);
5. Operation in Interconnected Mode 1 (MicroTurbine supplying the NGS installation and exporting power only to the MV public grid);
6. Operation in Interconnected Mode 2 (MicroTurbine supplying the NGS installation and exporting power to the LV and MV public grids);
7. Analysis of transitions and switching between the different modes.
The main purpose is to demonstrate the feasibility of transferring from interconnected to islanded mode of operation under various operating conditions. This will include transferring with several levels of load/generation imbalances and the necessary load control actions, in order to retain the frequency and voltage balance of the systems. To perform these tests EDP needs to define and to install some electrical circuits at the level of the MicroTurbine' s dual-mode control panel, as well as to install some additional protection systems. Furthermore, it is also required to install a small LV circuit to connect the actual LV public grid to the MicroTurbine panel.
INESC will assist EDP in the field tests to be performed for the grid connected and isolated modes of operation. It will participate in the definition of the types of real test to be performed and analysis of the obtained results, including its comparison with simulation results. Load shedding strategies in islanding mode will be tested and assessed in the real environment.
In addition, INESC will use the field test results for parameter identification of the theoretical models used to represent the microturbine dynamic behaviour and its controls.
