TC4 - Evaluation of novel Microgrid concepts
Investigation of the technical and economic feasibility of novel architectures, including variable frequency and DC networks with centralized inverters and suitable power electronics interfaces to the sources and the loads (ex. the effect on the loads from a broad variation of the frequency will be investigated). The inverters design and power could be optimised for the connection of the DC bus to the network, instead of for the power and peculiarities of each individual DG system. This kind of arrangement would be very similar to the AC standard Microgrid, but it would benefit from the higher simplicity to control the DC bus. However, DC/DC converters should be used for the individual connection of DG systems to the DC bus, in order to optimise voltage and the tracking point. In this task the following items will be carried out by LABEIN:
- Design, development and evaluation of a control strategy based on a common DC bus in order to improve the system stability and increase overall efficiency.
- Evaluation of two possible combinations for load connection: common DC bus and DC loads and common DC bus and AC loads.
In addition, ICCS/NTUA will simulate DC Microgrids operation in interconnected and isolated mode and identify advantages and disadvantages.
