TC1 - Investigation of the optimal network structure

Modern distribution networks were designed in the context of the conventional electricity supply philosophy, to accept power from bulk supply points and deliver it downstream to customers. As such they were designed to be passive in nature and so, the advent of DG has brought new challenges. In this task the following items will be investigated by ICCS/NTUA:

  • Examine whether the traditional and simple radial structure is sufficient/optimal, or the meshed network structure should be recommended for new Microgrids.
  • Evaluation of the recommended network structure for Microgrid operation (in accordance to different criterions, ex. system security, stability, reliability, etc.).
  • Examine possible interconnections between adjacent LV networks, with or without Microgrid operation capabilities.
