Work Package E : "Investigation
of Safety and Protection Requirements"
Work Package Leader
: UMIST
Partners involved :
ICCS, EDP, PPC, INESC, EPRI
Objectives :
A MicroGrid
is subject to the same safety requirements as any utility electric power
system and this WP will provide proposals (supported by analysis and simulation)
to ensure the MicroGrid can be operated safely. In particular the following
areas will be addressed:
-
Earthing (Grounding)
of the MicroGrid and its connection to the utility network.
-
Fault currents within
the MicroGrid (during both islanded and interconnected operation)
-
Step and touch potentials
in the event of faults
- Techniques for electrical
protection given the low contribution to short circuits from many inverters
Speed of response of the
electrical protection and hence implications for stability
